Judy Davis Writes

Why is such a great question to lead with, so that's how I'll start. Why 'Judy Davis Writes'?
Through a series of losses and life changes, our family walked through some of the highest highs and lowest lows of our lives in a very short time, from 2020-2022. Writing was a huge part of my healing. It helped me process things that were happening around us. I did, and continue to do, a tremendous amount of journaling of all kinds. In 2021, I began writing prose. In addition to helping me process things, it was an effective way to make tangible what I was feeling - an effective way to communicate to others what I was experiencing. As I began sharing what I was writing, I made connections. While others were going through circumstances very different from mine, we shared many of the same feelings.
I learned a great deal about grief. I learned things that helped me grieve well. I learned the importance of community while walking through grief. I learned the importance of sharing our stories and connecting in our stories.
I want to share my story and I want to share my writing to connect with others who might be feeling things similar to what I felt. Grief can often feel isolating. No one wants to feel alone.
I'm in the process of writing my story. I'm continuing to write prose. I'm looking forward to my words all coming together in a book I can share. In the meantime, I'm working on the theory that less can be more. I love the format of the 17 syllables of haiku. I'm challenging myself to condense things I learned and things I'm working through into the format of 17 syllables. I look forward to sharing them on social media as I journey through this adventure of writing a book.
We are all storytellers with a story to tell. I want to tell my story, and I hope that by telling my story, you will be encouraged to tell yours. We are better together when we share our stories and connect in our stories.
That's why 'Judy Davis Writes'.

About Me
I live in the amazing state of Florida with Allen, my loving and supportive husband of over 30 years. I love being a mother to our two adult daughters, Sarah and Emily, who are living their best lives in Kenya and Minnesota. They are both happily married to my two favorite sons-in-law, Nathan and Mitch. Allen and I are in an exciting season of life - growing in our faith and serving in the community around us. And while I never dreamed of traveling, we have had some pretty fantastic trips as a family. My background is math and computer information systems, but I have always loved words. Writing is new for me, but I'm enjoying this season of learning how to share my story with the hopes of connecting with others who are walking through grief.
